Public Hospital Treatment Area Improvement
Since 2014, our Association has been improving treatment areas in public hospitals, supplying equipment, decoration, furniture and technical materials that it donates to the public, and providing staff support.
Because paediatric oncology and haematology treatment areas are also places of psychological healing for children, we continue to provide Activity Teachers and Clinical Psychologists, whose salaries are paid by the association, in the hospitals where we have carried out renovation projects.
Hospital Wards We Have Rebuilt
Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital (2017-2018)
Beytullah Akman Paediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit
Built by our Association and opened in 2019, the Unit is named after our little angel Beytullah Akman, Chair of the Life Without Cancer Association Children’s Committee, who lost his life after waiting 16 years for a matching bone marrow transplant. It is the FIRST and ONLY such public ward in Istanbul. You can take a 3D tour of the transplant unit here.
Paediatric Haematology/Oncology Department
The Paediatric Haematology/Oncology Department on the same floor, also built by our Association, is the largest public department of its kind in Istanbul. Support from an activity teacher and a full-time clinical psychologist, whose salaries are covered by the association, continues. You can take a 3D tour of the department here.
“Colourful Dreams” Children’s Play Area
The play area, where mothers in treatment can leave their healthy children, registered through a special check-in and tracking system, during diagnosis and treatment processes such as doctor’s appointments, tests and imaging, was completed by the Life Without Cancer Association and opened to the public. An Activity Teacher assigned by our association also organises cultural and art activities throughout the day to boost the morale and motivation of children in treatment.
Sarıyer Hamidiye Etfal Hospital (2014 – 2019)
Paediatric Oncology/Haematology Outpatient Ward
With the support of our Association, the Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Paediatric Oncology/Haematology Outpatient Ward was rebuilt and opened in 2014. When the same ward moved to Sarıyer in 2019, our association renewed its interior and also created a “Life Room” where children awaiting treatment can socialise. Since it opened, a full-time Activity Teacher whose salary is paid by the association has organised cultural and art activities throughout the day to boost the morale and motivation of the children and their families.
Çukurova Balcalı Training and Research Hospital (2014)
Paediatric Oncology/Haematology Inpatient Ward
This was the first of our Association’s hospital rebuilding projects. The children’s beds of this regional hospital, which offers treatment to hundreds of children from surrounding provinces, were completed with donations to the Life Without Cancer Association.
